The Good Food Foundation announced the 336 outstanding food and drink crafters that are in the running for a 2021 Good Food Award. Rising to the top amongst 1,928 entries in 16 categories, these farmers and food crafters are leading the way in quality, sustainability and socially responsible production. Wise Bird Cider Co. is proud to be included in the group of amazing, top-notch cider producers for three of it’s ciders: Ashmead’s Kernel, Hewe’s Crab and Pommeau.

In late August, Cole went to Wise Bird Cider Company for the first time, an airy industrial-chic spot with long tables, outdoor seating, and charcuterie on the menu. Never much of a cider guy, he wasn’t sure what to expect, but he ended up liking it so much that now he’s carrying it at both his restaurants. As an added bonus, the space is kid-friendly. “You can let them loose to run around and not fear that they’re gonna tear the place up.”

Lexington’s Brewgrass Trail is Booming

The city’s “Brewgrass Trail” (visitlex.com/brewgrass-trail) has expanded to include 18 breweries, including two cideries, Pivot Brewing and Wise Bird Cider Co., the latter of which opened in June as the newest member of the trail. Ten of the stops are within the Lexington city limits, while the other eight are in communities close by.

They left their corporate jobs, moved to Lexington and found a community of support around creating and serving their own cider — all while Greta was pregnant with their second son.

Lexington’s popular Pepper Distillery campus is getting another alcohol-related tenant: Wise Bird Cider Co. plans to move in later this year and open to customers next spring.
Owners Tim Wright and Greta Pittard moved to Lexington from Washington, D.C., to be near family and to go pro with their cider-making hobby.
